Raja Ampat 7-Day Phinisi Itinerary

A Raja Ampat 7 day luxury phinisi itinerary sails a loop from Sorong through the Dampier Strait, Piaynemo, Wayag, and Misool, then back — with private full-boat charters from $5,500 per night, all-inclusive.

Refined Since 2018

Seven nights is the minimum Luxury Phinisi recommends for Raja Ampat: the archipelago spans more than 40,000 square kilometers, and the best of it sits far from any airport.

This is the route our charter team has refined since 2018 for U.S. travelers flying in through Jakarta or Bali. It balances the three regions every guest asks about — the fish-dense Dampier Strait, the karst lagoons of the north, and Misool's protected reefs in the south — without turning your week into a delivery passage. Use it as a starting point: every departure we run is a tailor-made Raja Ampat yacht itinerary, adjusted to your group, your dive certification, and the season.

The Loop

The Route at a Glance

Day Area Anchorage Highlights
1 Sorong → Dampier Strait Friwen / Kri Boarding, safety briefing, first reef snorkel, sunset at anchor
2 Dampier Strait Arborek Cape Kri, Blue Magic mantas, Arborek village jetty
3 Fam Islands Piaynemo Piaynemo viewpoint, Melissa's Garden, lagoon kayaking; overnight sail north
4 Wayag Wayag lagoon Karst labyrinth, summit climb, blacktip sharks in the shallows; overnight passage south
5 Misool (east) Balbulol Balbulol pinnacles, Love Lagoon viewpoint, Tomolol cave
6 Misool (reserve) Yapap Magic Mountain manta station, Boo Windows, Shadow Reef
7 Misool → Sorong Morning swim, return crossing, step ashore for Sorong (SOQ) flights

Three facts shape every Raja Ampat liveaboard itinerary. First, the departure port is Sorong, served by Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ) with daily connections from Jakarta and Makassar. Second, the distances are real: Wayag lies a full night's sail north of the Dampier Strait, and Misool a full night south, so this route includes two overnight passages — you sleep, the crew sails. Third, the charter season runs October through April, when seas are calm enough to reach all three regions in one week. Full details on our Raja Ampat phinisi charter page.

The Biodiverse Heart

Days 1–2: Sorong & the Dampier Strait

1

Day 1

Board in Sorong, first anchor in the strait

Our crew meets you at SOQ arrivals and transfers you to the harbor, where the phinisi waits with cold towels and the week's first meal already planned with your preferences. The crossing to the Dampier Strait takes three to four hours; most groups spend it settling into cabins and watching Batanta's ridgeline pass. By late afternoon you are anchored off Friwen, with time for a check-out snorkel or dive on Friwen Wall before sunset drinks on deck.

2

Day 2

Cape Kri, Blue Magic, and Arborek

The Dampier Strait is where Raja Ampat earned its reputation as the most biodiverse marine region on Earth. At Cape Kri, scientists have recorded more than 370 fish species on a single dive — a world record. Mornings here mean current-swept reefs stacked with sweetlips, jacks, and reef sharks; from October onward, Blue Magic becomes a reliable station for oceanic manta rays. In the afternoon the tender runs you to Arborek, a village of around 200 people whose jetty pilings host some of the easiest, richest snorkeling in the park. Non-divers lose nothing on this itinerary — most signature sites work at snorkel depth.

The Northern Karsts

Days 3–4: Piaynemo & Wayag

3

Day 3

The Fam Islands and the Piaynemo viewpoint

A short morning sail brings you to the Fam group. The climb to the Piaynemo platform — roughly 320 wooden steps — ends at the view printed on the 100,000-rupiah note: cone karst islets scattered across turquoise shallows. Below the surface, Melissa's Garden is a hard-coral plateau in near-perfect condition. The afternoon is built for the yacht's toys: kayaks and paddleboards through the hidden lagoon locals call Bintang, its star-shaped outline visible only from the ridge above. After dinner, the captain raises anchor for the overnight passage north.

4

Day 4

Wayag, the postcard of the north

You wake inside Wayag's lagoon system, a maze of jungle-topped limestone towers that most Raja Ampat visitors never reach — day boats cannot get here, which is precisely the argument for a raja ampat 7 nights phinisi liveaboard. The morning climb up Mount Pindito is steep, short, and worth every step; the panorama over the lagoons is the single most photographed view in Indonesian waters. Back at sea level, juvenile blacktip reef sharks patrol the shallows off the ranger station, calm enough to wade beside. After a beach barbecue lunch and a final swim, the phinisi begins the long run south to Misool while you sleep.

The Southern Crown

Days 5–6: Misool

5

Day 5

Balbulol, Love Lagoon, and the Tomolol cave

Misool is Raja Ampat's southern crown: remoter, quieter, and protected by one of the most successful marine reserves in Southeast Asia. The day starts among the Balbulol pinnacles — needles of rock rising from water so clear the reef reads from the deck. A tender ride and short walk bring you to the Karawapop viewpoint over the heart-shaped Love Lagoon, and in the afternoon you drift by tender into Tomolol, a sea cave large enough to swim through, its approaches marked with prehistoric rock paintings estimated to be thousands of years old.

6

Day 6

Magic Mountain and the Misool reserve

Day six belongs to the reefs. Magic Mountain is a submerged seamount where reef mantas and oceanic mantas share a cleaning station — one of very few sites on the planet where both species appear together. Boo Windows offers the region's most famous swim-through, and Shadow Reef layers soft corals in densities that stun even guests arriving from the Caribbean or the Red Sea. Your cruise director sequences sites around current and other boats so you rarely share a reef. The evening is a farewell dinner from your private chef, at anchor under a sky with zero light pollution.

Homeward

Day 7: The Return to Sorong

7

The phinisi makes the return crossing overnight or through the early morning, depending on your flight times. There is usually room for a final swim or a village stop off Batanta before you reach Sorong harbor by late morning. The crew handles luggage and the airport transfer; most guests connect to Jakarta or Bali the same afternoon. If your schedule allows ten days or more, this loop extends naturally — our phinisi voyage desk builds bespoke 7–21 day routes that add Triton Bay or a one-way crossing toward Banda.

Investment

7-Day Cost Breakdown

Raja Ampat pricing starts higher than Komodo because of its remoteness: fuel runs, provisioning logistics, and crew positioning all scale with distance from the nearest major port. Every figure below is a full-boat, per-night, all-inclusive rate — private chef, full crew, fuel, meals, snorkeling gear, water toys, and guided diving included. A raja ampat 7 day private cruise package on a premium-class yacht therefore lands between $38,500 and $84,000 for the whole boat, not per person.

Tier Yacht size Guests Per night 7-night total
Premium 25–35 m 6–12 $5,500–12,000 $38,500–84,000
Ultra 35–50 m 8–14 $12,000–20,000 $84,000–140,000
Flagship 50–65 m 12–16 $20,000–35,000 $140,000–245,000

Split across a full group, a raja ampat 7 day luxury liveaboard package on a 10-guest premium phinisi often works out below the price of a top-tier scheduled liveaboard cabin — with the entire yacht, crew, and route decisions belonging to you. Marine park fees, international flights, and premium alcohol are the main items billed separately; our crew arranges park permits before departure. Current seasonal rates and per-cabin alternatives are on the phinisi charter pricing page.

When to Sail

Best Season for This Route

This exact routing works from October through April, when the northwest monsoon keeps southern crossings manageable and manta activity peaks at Blue Magic and Magic Mountain. From May to September the southeast trade winds build swell across the open water between Sorong and Misool; in those months we reshape the week around the sheltered Dampier Strait and the north, or point guests toward Komodo instead. Month-by-month wind, visibility, and pricing patterns are covered in our guide to the best time to visit Raja Ampat.

The Right Vessel

Which Phinisi Suits This Route

Not every boat should attempt a raja ampat 7 day yacht charter itinerary that includes both Wayag and Misool. The two overnight passages demand a hull of 25 meters or more, twin tenders for reef access, a watermaker, a dive compressor, and — because Raja Ampat has almost no mobile signal — Starlink connectivity, now standard across our fleet. Luxury Phinisi's vessels pair exactly that equipment with hulls built by Konjo shipwrights in South Sulawesi, home of the UNESCO-listed pinisi boat-building tradition, in ironwood and teak. Compare specifications, cabin counts, and per-night rates across the Luxury Phinisi fleet, or see how Raja Ampat sits alongside our eleven other regions on the phinisi charter destinations hub.

Questions, Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 7 days enough for Raja Ampat?

+

Seven nights is the practical minimum and covers the three headline regions — Dampier Strait, Wayag, and Misool — with two overnight passages. If you would rather skip night sailing entirely, a 7-day route focused on the Dampier Strait and Piaynemo alone is calmer; 10–12 nights lets you do everything at half the pace.

Can this itinerary be customized?

+

Yes — every charter is a tailor-made Raja Ampat yacht itinerary. Full-boat guests set the priorities and the captain sequences anchorages around weather, tides, and other traffic. Common changes include swapping Wayag for extra Misool days, adding a Triton Bay extension, or building the week around a certification course.

Do I need to be a certified diver?

+

No. Most of this route's signature sites — Arborek jetty, Friwen Wall, Piaynemo's lagoons, even the Magic Mountain area — reward snorkelers, and viewpoints, caves, kayaking, and beach landings fill the days above water. Divers and non-divers travel comfortably on the same charter, with separate tenders when schedules diverge.

How do I get to Sorong?

+

Fly to Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ) via Jakarta or Makassar; from the U.S. West Coast the journey is typically one stop to Jakarta, then a direct domestic leg. Our crew meets every arrival, and we recommend landing a day early — a 7 night phinisi charter in Raja Ampat should never hinge on a tight connection.
