A phinisi voyage is the long-form sailing experience — 7 to 21 days aboard an authentic Indonesian wooden sailing yacht across the most remote and pristine waters in Asia. Bali to Komodo. Komodo to Alor. Banda Sea Grand Expedition. The Forgotten Islands. For travelers who want depth over speed, immersion over efficiency, and the kind of memories that take more than a long weekend to make.
Operated by Komodo Luxury. Voyages from USD 24,500.
What Defines a Phinisi Voyage (vs. a Charter)
The difference is duration and ambition. A 4-day Komodo charter is a focused experience — three days at the iconic Komodo sites, return to Labuan Bajo, fly home. A 14-day Raja Ampat voyage is something else: open-water passages, multi-region exploration, the crew become extended family, the boat genuinely becomes home, and the experience changes you in ways shorter trips cannot.
For travelers who already know they want to give Indonesia the time it deserves, voyages are the natural choice. Most repeat Luxury Phinisi guests cross over from charters to voyages on their second booking.
The Six Signature Voyages
1. Bali to Komodo (7 Days, 6 Nights)
The classic Indonesian crossing voyage. Embark Bali (Benoa Harbor), sail through Lombok Strait under sail, overnight at Sumbawa with whale shark encounters at Saleh Bay (April–November), arrive Komodo for 3–4 days of dragons, Padar, Pink Beach, and manta encounters, then return via Sumbawa. Total: 6 sailing nights, 2 overnight passages. Pricing: $24,500–$98,000 full charter. Best for: travelers wanting the full voyage feel without an extreme commitment.
2. Komodo to Alor (10 Days, 9 Nights)
The eastward expansion. Embark Labuan Bajo, sail east via Sumbawa, Sangeang Volcano (active and dramatic), Sape, Eastern Komodo, then to Maumere and into Alor’s frontier diving zones. Pantar, Kalabahi Bay, Bama Wall (“Great Wall of Pantar”), and the wunderpus muck-diving sites. For advanced divers and macro photographers. Pricing: $42,000–$135,000 full charter. April–November.
3. Raja Ampat Grand Voyage (14 Days, 13 Nights)
All four zones of Raja Ampat in one voyage: Dampier Strait, Misool, Wayag, Waigeo. The most complete Raja Ampat experience available. Cape Kri, Manta Sandy, Magic Mountain, Boo Windows, Hidden Bay, Wayag Lagoon, the Waigeo bird-of-paradise sites. For lifetime trips, photography expeditions, and serious dive-focused families. Pricing: $98,000–$400,000 full charter. October–April only.
4. Banda Sea Grand Expedition (21 Days, 20 Nights)
The single most ambitious voyage in Indonesian sailing. Embark Labuan Bajo, sail through Alor, Forgotten Islands, Banda Neira (spice trade history, Bung Hatta exile site), Banda Sea hammerhead sites at Manuk and Serua, then onward to Raja Ampat (Sorong). Total of 20 sailing nights covering 1,800+ nautical miles. October–November only (narrow weather window). Pricing: $210,000–$735,000 full charter. The lifetime trip.
5. Triton Bay to Raja Ampat (12 Days, 11 Nights)
The Western Papua specialty voyage. Embark Kaimana, dive Triton Bay (whale sharks at the bagans, soft coral gardens, Kiti-Kiti waterfall), sail north to Misool, then continue through central Raja Ampat. Pricing: $66,000–$220,000. November–April.
6. Forgotten Islands & Alor (12 Days, 11 Nights)
Saumlaki to Maumere, crossing the Tanimbar archipelago, Sermata, Damar, Babar, and Alor. The most remote sailing zone in Indonesia, accessible only April–May or October–November. For travelers seeking destinations 95% of the world will never see. Pricing: $66,000–$200,000.
Voyage Pricing Structure
Voyages are priced per night, full boat, all-inclusive — same model as shorter charters but typically slightly higher per-night rate due to fuel intensity and remote logistics. Per-night pricing:
- Premium voyage (25–35m): $5,500–$10,000/night
- Ultra-luxury voyage (35–50m): $10,000–$17,000/night
- Flagship voyage (50–65m): $17,000–$35,000/night
Plus park fees ($25–$100/person/region), alcohol (BYO), and dive supplements. See full pricing →
What’s Included in a Phinisi Voyage
Same all-inclusive model as shorter charters: vessel, crew, fuel, gourmet meals (chef adapts daily menus across 14–21 days without repeating dishes), non-alcoholic beverages, water sports gear, fresh linens daily, daily housekeeping, dive guides for diving voyages, satellite connectivity, and 24/7 concierge during voyage. Voyages additionally include: dedicated voyage photographer (optional, $400/day add-on), expedition-grade gear (extra sun shelter, additional tenders, expanded library), and optional specialist guides (marine biologist, ornithologist, cultural historian).
Voyage Lead Time
Voyages require longer planning. For 14–21 day flagship voyages, book 9–12 months ahead. The largest boats (Lamima, Prana) sell out a year in advance for peak season. Shorter voyages (7–10 day) can sometimes book with 4–6 months notice.
Why a Voyage Beats Multiple Short Charters
Travelers planning multi-week Indonesia trips sometimes consider booking two separate 4-day charters with hotel stays in between. We strongly recommend voyages instead. Reasons: continuity (your crew gets to know you over multiple days, service quality compounds), depth (you reach destinations no day-charter can access), efficiency (no repeated airport transfers, hotel check-ins, packing/unpacking), and cost (per-night rates drop significantly on longer charters). A 14-day voyage typically costs less than two 7-day charters with hotel breaks.

Why American Travelers Choose Luxury Phinisi
Indonesia has hundreds of phinisi yacht operators. Most are excellent at running boats. Few are built around the way American luxury travelers actually book, pay, and travel. We were built specifically for you.
Built for the U.S. Market
USD pricing, U.S. bank account collection, AmEx and Stripe acceptance, Wise transfer flexibility, and 24/7 WhatsApp concierge that answers within an hour during U.S. business hours. No exchange-rate surprises. No middle-of-night replies from Asia.
Authentic UNESCO Heritage
Every vessel in our fleet is a true phinisi — hand-built in South Sulawesi by master shipwrights from the Bira tradition recognized by UNESCO in 2017. Not phinisi-styled imitations from Thai or Vietnamese shipyards. The real boats. The real heritage. The real story.
Five-Star Hospitality Standards
Cabin standards benchmarked against Aman, Como, and Four Seasons. Egyptian cotton linens, in-cabin climate control, en-suite marble bathrooms, and crews trained in anticipatory hospitality. Most phinisis come from the dive-boat tradition. We come from the hotel tradition.
Travel Advisor Network
Active partner of Virtuoso, ASTA, and the AmEx Platinum and Centurion travel program. Your trusted U.S. travel advisor gets the same commission they would on a Mediterranean superyacht charter, with the same direct booking access.

What U.S. Guests Say About Their Charter
"Booking Luxury Phinisi was the best decision of our 25th anniversary. The crew anticipated needs we did not even know we had. Captain Andi rerouted us to a private bay at Padar that no day-trip operator could reach. Worth every dollar."
David and Margaret K. — Houston, TX (7-day Komodo charter, March 2026)
"Our family of 12 spans ages 8 to 78. Most luxury operators could not accommodate the range. Reza's team built three parallel itineraries for us — Padar sunrise for the teens, gentle reef snorkeling for the kids, lounging on deck for grandma. Phenomenal."
The Williams Family — Aspen, CO (10-day multi-gen Komodo + Sumbawa, July 2025)
"We considered a Mediterranean superyacht for our honeymoon. So glad we chose Luxury Phinisi instead. The cultural depth, the diving, the absolute privacy of Wayag — nothing in the Med can compete. The boat itself is a story you tell for the rest of your life."
Jordan and Alex — Brooklyn, NY (14-day Raja Ampat honeymoon, December 2025)
