Sustainability & Community Impact
Our Philosophy: Menjaga Alam, Menghormati Budaya (Protecting Nature, Respecting Culture)
At Luxury Phinisi, we believe that true luxury is inseparable from responsibility. We operate in some of the most ecologically significant and culturally rich locations on Earth, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Komodo National Park and the heart of the Coral Triangle in Raja Ampat. Our license to operate in these pristine environments is a privilege we take seriously. Guided by our advisor, Dr. Lestari Putri, our sustainability policy is a core pillar of our business, focused on tangible actions that protect the environment and empower local communities.
Environmental Commitments
- Marine Conservation Partnerships: We are proud financial supporters of the Komodo Survival Program and the Manta Trust. A percentage of every charter fee is donated to these organizations to fund their vital on-the-ground conservation and research efforts.
- Active Reef Restoration: We offer guests the opportunity to participate in coral planting activities in partnership with the Indonesian Coral Reef Foundation (TERANGI), creating a direct, positive impact.
- Carbon Offsetting Program: We have partnered with a VERRA-certified Indonesian organization to meticulously calculate the carbon footprint of each charter. We then invest in certified carbon offset projects, such as the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve project in Kalimantan, to render each journey carbon-neutral.
- Zero Single-Use Plastics: We have eliminated over 95% of single-use plastics from our operations. All our luxury phinisi yachts are equipped with onboard water filtration and bottling systems, and we use reusable and biodegradable materials for all provisions.
- Advanced Waste Management: Every vessel in our fleet is fitted with modern wastewater treatment systems, ensuring no black or grey water is discharged into sensitive marine areas. All solid waste is sorted and properly disposed of at designated port facilities.
Community & Cultural Commitments
- Prioritizing Local Employment: Over 95% of our vessel crew and on-the-ground staff are hired from local communities in Flores, West Papua, and South Sulawesi. We are committed to providing fair wages, comprehensive training, and long-term career opportunities.
- Supporting Local Economies: We empower local economies by sourcing fresh produce, fish, and supplies from local markets in Labuan Bajo, Sorong, and Ambon. This ensures our investment directly benefits the communities we visit.
- Preserving Cultural Heritage: We honor the UNESCO-recognized art of phinisi shipbuilding by working directly with master builders in Tana Beru, South Sulawesi. We also facilitate respectful and authentic cultural exchanges, such as visits to the weaving village of Papagarang in Komodo, ensuring the community is a direct beneficiary of tourism.
- Guest Education: We believe in turning our guests into ambassadors for conservation. Our briefings include detailed information on responsible tourism practices, such as maintaining a safe distance from wildlife and respecting local customs and traditions.
