Resort-based diving in Indonesia is excellent for accessible sites near Bali, Manado, or specific dive destinations. But the world-class dive sites — Cape Kri, Magic Mountain, Castle Rock, Misool’s pinnacles, Banda Sea hammerheads — are only reachable by liveaboard. Cape Kri in the Dampier Strait holds the world record: 374 fish species in a single 90-minute dive. The four Raja Ampat zones (Dampier, Misool, Wayag, Waigeo) deliver every diving experience — biodiversity, soft coral gardens, swim-throughs, manta cleaning stations, drift dives, and current-driven pelagic encounters. Best season: October–April. Required: Advanced Open Water + 30+ logged dives.
Batu Bolong (current-swept pinnacle, sharks, mantas, Napoleon wrasse), Castle Rock (open seamount, barracuda tornadoes), Manta Alley (manta cleaning station), Manta Point at Karang Makassar (snorkeling-friendly manta encounters). 4–7 day liveaboards. April–November. Open Water minimum; Advanced Open Water for Castle Rock and Batu Bolong.
750+ coral species, 900+ fish species. Roma Reef (100% coral coverage, schooling bumphead parrotfish), Cornucopia, Sombu Wall, Waha Wall. Year-round availability due to sheltered position. 30–50 meter visibility. Best for: macro photography, beginner divers transitioning to advanced sites.
October–November narrow window for hammerhead aggregations at Manuk and Serua. Combined with Banda Neira (volcanic muck, mandarin fish mating), Hatta Island walls, and the spice trade history. 14–21 day grand expeditions only.
500+ coral species, near-zero crowds. Bama Wall (“Great Wall of Pantar”) with extreme coral coverage to 30+ meters. Beangabang Bay muck diving (wunderpus, mimic octopus). Pura Island West Ridge drift diving. April–November. For repeat divers seeking sites 95% of operators don’t reach.
Most reliable whale shark encounters in Indonesia outside Cenderawasih. Endemic walking sharks, soft coral gardens, Kiti-Kiti waterfall directly into the sea. November–April. Best paired with Misool/Raja Ampat.
Personal dive gear (BCD, regulator, dive computer, mask, fins, wetsuit, dive boots) is BYO for serious divers. Rental gear is available with 14 days advance notice — full set rental $150–$250/week. Underwater photography gear is always BYO; we provide rinse facilities and dry storage.
We require all guests to carry diving accident insurance. We recommend DAN (Divers Alert Network) or equivalent. Cost: $25–$120/year depending on coverage tier. We can provide DAN signup links if you don’t currently have coverage.
